IssuesWashington's HomeTeam will take action on issues that confront families and businesses in our community. Specifically, we will:
SAFETY AND SECURITYWashington Township is serviced by the Macomb County Sheriff Department and our own Fire Department. We will work with these organizations, neighborhood associations and local businesses to continually improve our overall safety and security. Our vigilance in monitoring population and traffic trends, criminal activity and fire department responses in our own and surrounding communities will help us to identify opportunities rather than react to them.
ENACT ORDINANCES THAT PROMOTE AGRI-TOURISMFarms and orchards help to maintain the beauty of the area, offer a healthy choice with locally grown fruits and vegetables, provides a higher quality of life, keeps property values stable and minimizes infrastructure costs (roads, schools, sewer, emergency services) from being overburdened. Enacting ordinances that promote Agri-Tourism helps preserve our rural lifestyle by encouraging those with agricultural operations to stay in business.
SUPPORT OUR LOCAL CABLE STUDIO Washington Township, Bruce Township and Romeo residents are charged fees on their cable bills to fund our public access cable channel, WBRW. Those fees are collected by the cable provider and are returned to the local governments. The local governments are required to use those funds for funding local public access cable at WBRW. For the past few years, Washington Township has taken a position to withhold most of these funds. It is not fair for our local cable to have to continue to provide services for which they have not been paid.
We will honor our contract with our surrounding communities in funding our public access cable channel. LEARN MORE HERE
CULTIVATE A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENTFor local businesses, road side signs are a means for potential customers to locate them to purchase products or services. Commercial signage is an investment of thousands of dollars for small and large businesses with product costs, legal fees, and labor costs. In October of 2007, Washington Township Planning Commission and Board of Trustees passed a new sign ordinance after making multiple revisions. This new ordinance becomes effective in 2010, and will cost local businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars - putting many out of business in Washington Township. Unfortunately, the changes that were NOT made to the sign ordinance are as important as those that were made.
